Do Clothes Shape Who You Are?

``The clothes make the man” is an example of an idiom. This common saying is expressing the idea that people will judge you according to the way you dress.

I think that clothes do not shape who you are. In this paragraph I will talk about how clothes do not reflect who you are or how you act. First of all clothing is just a piece of material made somewhere far away in a big factory. People think if you follow the current clothes trend then that brand is the type of person you are, but this is not true at all. You should be judged by your personality and your values not what you wear. These are just a few points of why clothes do not shape who you are.

There is a reason why we wear a uniform. First of all we go to a private school, which means we have to wear one. They made private schools for different reasons and here is one of them. The clothes we wear does not have a big impact on a person, but people still get judged if their wearing fake uggs or fake ray bans. I know this girl who goes to a public school and she had fake uggs and she was getting so mistreated she got her mom to sow her an ugg lable. Uniforms are great becasue we all wear the same thing, nobody can judge what you wear! Sometimes I wish I could wear normal clothes every day and then there are those days when I am really happy to be so fortunate of wearing the same comfortable clothes as everyone else! These are the reasons why I think we wear a uniform!

On the other hand some people might think clothes shape who we are. Like if I went to school wearing a pink t-shirt with a bunch of hearts people would think I was in a good and happy mood. If someone came dressed to school in dark black clothes and periencings, they would think they were angry or antisocial and people would probably make mean comments. Like us, on dress down days (days where you wear whatever you want) we wear nice clothes, which some of us would not regularly wear. Clothes is a way that people can express themselves and show thier creativity. Like artists might wear lots of funcky colors to show how unique they are. In the end people think that clothes shape who we are and some think it does not.

The quote “The clothes make the man” could mean lots of things. I think that this quote is not totally accurate because in the end we all have different styles, moods, personalities, values and clothes.
