Empathy

The ability to understand through imagination into the thoughts or feelings of another person.
Empathy.

Parvana is a very unlucky child. I feel empathy for Parvana when her father gets taken away. Imagine if you lived in a place where you lived moment by moment, day by day not sure if you will see the sun rise in the morning. A place where life barely exits and mean people take away your parents to parts unknown. Picture yourself one night waking up to the sound of soldiers beating your father and listening to the horrific screams from your mother. Not sure if my parents will even live through the night and if they do, they will be in extreme pain. Deborah Ellis makes me feel empathy because she relates to the character, uses lots of descriptive words and illustrates similar situations. In summary I can feel empathy in the book the breadwinner.

When Deborah describes that Parvana doesn`t go to school, or plays outside it makes me feel lots of empathy for her. I can relate this to my own experiences because I enjoy going to school and playing outside. It is really hard for me to imagine myself in Parana's shoes, because I couldn`t live without education and fresh air. It is quite evident that Deborah Ellis is a great empathy writer.
