YRSA

A life changing experience. Trying new foods. Meeting new people. Seeing different cultures. Learning things we can do to save the environment is young round square.

On Sunday, May 2nd 2010 was the beginning of a journey of a lifetime. We traveled to the beautiful province of New Brunswick, as did 99 other delegates from 26 different schools, 9 different countries, and 4 different continents. We met people from USA, Bangladesh, Germany, Peru, Japan, Ecuador, India, Singapore, and all parts of Canada. Everyday of our one-week trip was an adventure. We experienced fun activities from tree planting to the Bay of Fundy, Glen Burn, and touring the largest oil refinery in Canada. Other activities included were geo-caching, garbage clean up, hiking, games, and helping build a home for Habitat For Humanity.

During the evenings we watched great performances from Mike Ford, cultural dances, and Judson Laipply who created the most popular video on youtube, The Evolution Of Dance, which we had the opportunity to learn one afternoon.
It was a one and only experience that we will never forget. We made long lasting friendships that brought tears to our eyes when we bid our goodbyes on Friday, May 7. We learned so many new things about what we can do to help the environment that we will use to make our school a better place.3

Life Lesson- “Life isn’t always going to be the party we’d hoped for, but while we are here, we might as well dance.” – Judson Laipply.

Ice Cream

First bite: finger-licking.
Second bite: scrumptious,
Third bite: delicous,
Last bite- mouthwatering

A soft frozen food made with sweetened and flavored milk fat. Ice Cream. I love ice cream beacause it's toothsome, you can buy it anywhere you desire and it's nice to eat on a sunny day.

When the cold substance enters my mouth and touches my teeth I get goosebumps running down my spine. Like I said, it's toothsome. The best thing is that ice cream never tastes the same because you can try so many different flavours. I surveyed people in the class and the top 3 favourite types of ice cream are Vanilla, Chocolate and Cookies 'n Cream. My all time favourite is Vanilla, but I like trying new types of ice creamas well. If you want ice cream there is always a place to find it.

Dairy Queen, McDonalds, Cows, Baskin Robbins, and Marble Slab are places you can buy ice cream. Thats another reason why I love ice cream because there is always a location close by with either soft, hard or both types of ice cream. If you are in your car and your hungry stop buy for some delicous ice cream. No wonder I love ice cream, I can eat it everywhere and at anytime.

If you eat too much ice cream it will make you fat. So try some low fat ice cream, it taste the same but it isn't as bad for you. It's not that ice cream is bad for you, it's just the sugar and cream. On the other hand, the milk in ice cream is good for you as it helps keep your bones stronger. You can eat ice cream in a cone or a cup, your choice. But what ever you choose,it's the ice cream thats important.
In summary I love ice cream because it is finger licking, scrumptious, delicous, mouthwatering and toothsome.

Life is like an ice-cream cone, you have to lick it one day at a time.
Charles M. Schulz

Life Lesson. Eat ice cream, but not to much so you don't get fat!

R is for Rumors

A circulating story or report of an uncertain truth. A Rumor. They can be spread without anybody even realizing it. If someone hears something, they might share the information in a different way than they heard it. This can cause friendships to break up, and also hurt the persons feelings who the rumor is about, if it is negative feedback. But why do people start rumors in the first place?

A rumor is a form of bullying. I don't think rumors are very nice especially if people believe it. If somebody came up to you and said, "Did you hear that Sasha called Josh a cow, that was so mean! Don't ever talk to Sasha again." Is this true? Maybe, but what you don't see with your eyes, don't witness with your mouth. ~Jewish Proverb Imagine how Sasha would feel about this rumor. Nobody would want to talk to her, and this would break Sasha's friendship with Josh. Rumors can hurt so it is best not to spread them. Why do people spread rumors that people believe if it's a form of bullying? They do this so they make others feel bad and it makes the person who started the rumor feel good about themselves.

I think rumors shouldn't get shared because you don't realize if it is the truth when you pass it on and more importantly you don't know how much it could hurt the person your talking about. In summary don't start rumors because they can cause problems like friendship breakups and hurt feelings. Just follow this quote and you won't spread rumors or lose any friends.

Do not repeat anything you will not sign your name to. ~Author Unknown

Life Lesson- If a rumor gets told to you, don't spread it because it's probably not true.

World Hunger

Imagine: living in a place with no shelter, food or water. Picture your parents disappearing before your eyes. Try to visualize waking up to gunshots. This is what many children around the world have to try and survive with daily.

Did you know every year 15 million children die of hunger? Look at us Canadians, who spend lots of our money on junk food. We throw our food out in the garbage when we are full. We waste water by not turning the tap off while brushing our teeth, or taking two showers a day because we feel dirty or our hair feels greasy. Many people in other places HAVE NEVER tasted junk food, HAVE NEVER been full, HAVE NEVER brushed their teeth, and HAVE NEVER had a shower. Do you realize how fortunate we are to have a shelter, food and water? Why can't we save those 15 million children dying of hunger?

We want so much stuff that we don’t even need. We all want things like; smart phones, blackberrys, iPods, computers, fashionable clothes and shoes. When other people on the other side of the world have never heard of these items or understand their value. Did you know for the price of one missile, a school full of hungry children could eat lunch every day for 5 years? This is so unacceptable, and means we HAVE to change. Children should have a shelter, food and water. Kids need parents to survive. Nobody should have to experience hearing gunshots every day.

Change is a word we should think of. Difference is another. That’s it; we can change people’s lives by making a difference. There are genuinely sufficient resources in the world to ensure that no one, anywhere, at any time, should go hungry.
-- Ed Asner

Life lesson- think of others before your self, you could have ended up born like one of these children.
